Inhambane, 9 October 2024 – After casting his vote in Inhambane alongside his wife, Gueta Chapo, FRELIMO presidential candidate Daniel Chapo addressed the public, emphasising the importance of a peaceful and celebratory Election Day. Chapo extended his gratitude to the Mozambican people for their active participation in the electoral process, recognising it as both a right and a civic duty.
Chapo commended citizens for the orderly and non-violent nature of the 43-day campaign, describing it as a nationwide celebration of democracy’s 30-year milestone since Mozambique’s first multi-party elections in 1994. He urged voters to replicate the peaceful spirit of the campaign at the polls, ensuring that today’s election is a reflection of unity and respect.
Appealing to voters across Mozambique, Chapo encouraged all eligible citizens to make their voices heard, avoiding abstention and participating in this historic vote. He extended this call to Mozambicans in the diaspora, urging them to join in the democratic process from wherever they are.
As the election process unfolds, Chapo called for calm during the vote counting and result announcement phases, hoping that Mozambicans from Ruvuma to Maputo will remember this election as free, fair, and transparent.
