Maputo, 9th October 2024 – President Filipe Nyusi cast his ballot today at Josina Machel Secondary School in Maputo, accompanied by his wife, Isaura Ferrão Nyusi. Speaking to the press, the Head of State emphasised the importance of a peaceful and transparent electoral process, reiterating his appeal for Mozambicans to remain calm throughout the voting day.
Nyusi underscored the democratic significance of this moment for the country and encouraged all citizens to vote in a composed manner, urging that the act should become a national celebration. “We continue to appeal for everyone to remain serene and calm, so that we may celebrate together,” he stated, stressing that international observers should witness an honest and free process.
Drawing an analogy with football, the President remarked, “The match lasts 90 minutes,” indicating that official results should only be announced after the process concludes. He urged all parties to avoid premature declarations. In closing, the President expressed his wishes for the elections to proceed smoothly, reinforcing that peace and respect for democracy are essential for Mozambique’s continued development.
